DAY 161 : Cool For School Blog Bash :: Day 2 & Newman's Own Organics Review & Giveaway Galore

The other day I received a huge package in the mail. And I mean 15 hulking pounds huge! I knew the Newman’s Own Organics people were going to send me some things to review, but I had no idea they were going to send me this much stuff!

THAT’S A LOT OF FOOD!

Obviously, I haven’t tried everything yet but here are some reviews of the items I’ve tried so far, plus some of the non-vegan items that my family tested. (I’ll let you know which ones aren’t vegan.) You can find nutritional information on all of these products on the Newman’s Own Organics website

.Salted Stick Pretzels: These pretzels were okay. Nothing that special; they really just tasted like any other pretzel rod out there, except that these are organic.

Cinnamon Hermits: I was not a big fan of the chunky sugar crystals sprinkled on top and thought that some of them had way too many raisins/dried fruit. It was a little bit of an overload! On the pro side, however, I’m pretty sure this package included more cookies than the 12 that it was supposed to contain. Bonus cookies = always good! Also,Ipreferred these to the more distinctively flavored ginger version (below).

I just loved these..

Mighty Mini Pretzels: Not much to write home about. Again, these taste pretty “normal” as far as pretzels go. Of course the ingredients are a little better, though I would’ve preferred that they at least use whole grains!

Newman-O's Crème Filled Chocolate Cookies: To me, these tasted exactly like Oreos, and at first taste my 8yr oldseemed to agree. However, he soon stated that she thought they were better, andsaid the chocolate was richer and the filling thicker…or something like that. I’ve never been much of an Oreo fan so I wasn’t majorly excited about these. But if you love the traditional chocolate sandwich cookies, these would probably be right up your alley.

Newman-O's Chocolate Crème Filled Chocolate Cookies: Again, these were very similar to normal/ conventional sandwich cookies…which could either be a plus or a minus, depending on how you look at it and on your food philosophy. For me, it was a minus.

Barbeque Soy Crisps: These were different. The barbeque flavor was present but not over-powering, and they were very airy—like a rice cake. While it’s worth remarking that they include 7 grams of protein per serving, I don’t think I would buy these.


Cinnamon Sugar Soy Crisps: As I mentioned above, these taste very similar to what I remember rice cakes tasting like .... On their own these weren’t that fab—unless perhaps they will give you just that hint of sweet crunch that you’re craving—but I think that they would be good served with a dip or fruit salsa.  Although I haven’t ever had it, you might try them with Kristen’s Cinnamon Delight Hemp Spread.

Dried fruit is the perfect snack and also great to add to our oatmeal and chewy granola bars. Newman's Own Organics makes several types of dried fruits and they do not contain sulfites! I hope you don't eat dried fruit with sulfites! We were sent the Apricots, Raisins, Cranberries and the Berry Blend. All of these are wonderful and it has been a great travel snack as well for trips and short errands into town.

We were also sent 2 packages of Hermits and Fig Newmans. Hermits are a rich, chewy, spicy cookie sweetened with molasses. The Hermits are not overly sweet, but they are so rich one, or possibly 2 is filling and satisfying. They are different from a typical cookie, but my sons  and I both loved these. The Fig Newmans are out of this world. This is another Newman's Own Organics product that I have purchased a couple of times as well especially for our travel trips. I also want to mention that the Fig Newmans have a Wheat Free/Dairy Free version for any of you who may have these sensitives.

Last, but certainly not least, we got to try out a variety of chocolates and mints! Newman's Own Organics Chocolate Bars are made with at least 95% certified organic ingredients. These chocolate bars knocked my socks off. They are so yummy! I'm a dark chocolate girl, so I especially enjoyed the darker blends. The Newman's Own Organics Mints have been a wonderful addition to my purse! I usually keep gum in my purse, but since I started eating healthy 5 months ago I eliminated the usage of artificial flavored chewing gums. These organic mints are a great replacement and are very tasty and refreshing.

We have really enjoyed getting to try out all of these fabulous Newman's Own Organics products! There are a few of the products I am especially hooked on now. I am excited because I saw on Newman's Own Organics Facebook page that they have new products coming out, Licorice Twists! I happened to be in Whole Foods the next day and checked just to see if they were out yet, but no, they aren't there yet. I'll be keeping my eye out on these.
